Preparations for London Marathon 2019 are already underway at Team Saint Francis Hospice #TeamSFH!
On Wednesday 7 November, Nicole, Sophie and Fleur attended the first of three London Marathon evenings at the hospice - meeting their amazing 2019 runners and discussing everything running-related, including:
- getting organised and finding the right training programme tailored for you
- gait assessments, trainers and running socks
- the importance of recovery, self help, stretching, foam rolling
- the benefits of maintenance sports massage during the 16-week training programme
- what running injuries to look out for, what they feel like and what you should do if they happen
- getting together and running as a group for some training runs
Other professionals sharing their knowledge were:
- Andy Preston, sports coach/psychologist
- David Dixon, sports nutritionist
- Sarah Williamson, Head of Fundraising at SFH
- Sue Spong, SFH bereavement counsellor and marathon runner (who is a veteran of marathons!)
And Frankie the lion, of course!

It was a pleasure to meet these amazing fundraisers who are taking on their epic challenge and raising at least £2,000 each for SFH.
