Q&A with Poppy

What is the best thing about being a Sports Massage Therapist?

Meeting the wonderful clients and helping them to achieve their goals.

What sports are you interested in?

I love all sports, whether that be football (obviously!), tennis, golf, netball, hockey and many

more!

What is your favourite muscle and why?

I would say the Gastrocnemius (calf) because it is known as a biarticulate muscle that spans

across two joints - the ankle and the knee, which plays a crucial role in walking, jumping and

running as well as lower limb stability which is vital in preventing injuries. I am also biased

because I have had many ankle injuries across my football career, and I have to consistently

work on the important muscles crossing my ankle including my calves in order to allow me

to keep doing what I love!

What is your favourite joint and why?

I would say the ankle joint. I have always had a keen interest in ankles after sustaining many

ankle injuries over my football career! Ankles are so important in our ability to balance and

move, by absorbing forces and providing support.

What is your favourite stretch for the body?

I think child’s pose is a really great stretch because it allows you to gently stretch your hips,

ankles, and back whilst encouraging relaxation and a sense of calm.

Who is your favourite sportsperson at the moment and why?

I think at the moment my favourite sportsperson has to be Declan Rice. Although I’m not an

Arsenal Fan, I think he is a brilliant professional, a great person and an incredible athlete. His

playing attributes align with a lot of what I value, work rate, passion and leadership!

What are your sporting goals?

To get promoted to WSL 2 with Watford FC Women and be successful in the cup

competitions, as well as achieve 100 appearances for Watford FC Women. I want to

continue playing professional football for as long as I can!
