Q&A with Magdalena

What is the best thing about being a Sports Therapist?

I love helping people to feel better. A healing journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step and my role as a therapist is to share the gift and power of a therapeutic touch.

What sports are you interested in?

Handball and triathlon are my main interests, but I enjoy watching any sports performance.

What sports do you do?
I train in the gym every week - general strength and fitness. I want to get back into running again as I used to compete in athletics. Would love to start marathon training!

What is your favourite muscle and why?

The diaphragm - which is the major muscle of respiration. It works day and night to keep us alive. It is a large, dome-shaped muscle that contracts rhythmically and continually and most of the time, involuntarily. Optimising its function will help anyone to feel and perform better whether you are a pro athlete or weekend warrior.

What is your favourite joint and why?

The thumb - so much modern day life revolves around using its unique movement pattern, called opposition (bringing the thumb in contact to a finger). Whether playing a sport or ordering food delivery on our smartphones, thumbs would assist us in any possible way.

Essentially, without its dexterity, we would not be able to progress as Humans.

What is your favourite stretch for the body?

I love a good hamstring stretch whether that be lying on your back bringing your leg up to the ceiling or trying to touch your toes. It is simple and easy and applicable for everybody so everyone can feel the benefits.

Who is your favourite sportsperson at the moment and why?

I am currently fascinated with the achievements of Diana Nyad. At the age of 64 she swam from Havana, Cuba to Key West, Florida, covering a distance of 110 miles.  She has proved that age is just a number and with a work ethic and determination everything is possible.

“Whatever your Other Shore is, whatever you must do, whatever inspires you, you will find a way to get there.”- Diana Nyad.

What are your sporting goals?

  • To enhance my resilience and strength in the gym

  • To try something completely new this year - Tai Chi

You are stranded on a desert island and are only allowed to have three things with you - what are they?

  • Sunglasses

  • Massage table

  • My library
